Harokopio University, Athens

For EGOV 2026, we have the great pleasure of inviting you to Athens, Greece! Harokopio University of Athens, in co-operation with the University of the Aegean, will be the organizers of the conference.

Harokopio University of Athens is a Higher Education Institution founded in 1990. It is located in the center of Athens, near Acropolis, Parthenon and the famous Museum of Acropolis. It consists of four Departments: Economics and Sustainable Development, Nutrition and Dietetics, Geography and Informatics & Telematics. It has about 3500 students, and offers high quality undergraduate and postgraduate education. Also, it is active in research and participates in many international research projects. The local organization at Harokopio University of Athens will be supported by colleagues at the University of the Aegean; a public, multi-campus university located in Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Rhodes, Syros and Lemnos, Greece.

The conference sessions will take place from 1 to 3 September at Harokopio University of Athens. As part of the conference, we offer a PhD Colloquium on 30 August; a full-day event open to admitted students only and offers a limited number of PhD scholarships. We also offer a Junior Faculty School on August 31; a pre-conference day aimed at sharing experiences to promote the careers of young researchers interested in digitalization and government.

Local hosts are Associate Professor Teta Stamati, Harokopio University of Athens, and Professors Euripidis Loukis and Yannis Charalabidis, University of the Aegean.

Welcome!

Accomodation

Please note that we do not provide a booking service, and participants must book their own hotel. If you are contacted by companies offering rooms during the conference or urging you to book your hotel room through their services, this is spam.

It is very important that participants book hotel as early as possible, as the time period of the EGOV 2026 Conference (first days of September) is a tourism peak period, and the availability of hotel rooms is limited.

There are no good hotels quite near the Harokopio University, so one option is some good hotels along Siggrou avenue, about 20-25 minutes’ walk from the University (and less than 10 minutes with taxi, which is not very expensive in Athens – for this distance we expect a cost of about 6-7 Euro). We would recommend the following (all costs have been taken from the platform Booking.com for 1 adult and for the period 29 August – 3 September):

  • Grant Hyatt Athens – about 230 Εuro per night (a very good hotel)
  • Athenaeum Smart Hotel – about 150 Εuro per night

For those who want to enjoy the Athenian riviera (a nice coastal area of Athens, where one can swim of take nice seaside walks) a second option are some hotels in this coastal area, which are near the center of Athens – the best way to go from these hotels to the Harokopio University is via taxi:

  • Poseidon Hotel – about 200 Εuro per night (5,5 km distance from Harokopio University)
  • Coral Hotel – about 190 Εuro per night (4,5 km distance from Harokopio University)

Finally, as Harokopio University is not far from the metro station ‘Tavros’ (about 700m – less than 10 minutes’ walk), one can select any hotel that is near one metro station, included the numerous hotels in the center of Athens (near Syntagma Square), which are however rather expensive. Some good hotels with reasonable prices are:

  • Amalia Hotel – about 200 Εuro per night (near metro station Syntagma)
  • President Hotel – about 120 Εuro per night (500m from metro station Panormou)
